On a cold, wet and windy day the EYS Fall Recreation U6/U7 League kicked off its inaugural season. But the harsh weather conditions couldn't keep the players, coaches and supporters from putting on a fantastic display. The players played their best, had an amazing time and made all those watching proud!
Game 1 kicked the day off with the Rapids vs. Clash. In a nail biter, the Rapids edged out the Clash.
In a back and forth affair that saw both teams play attacking soccer, and had various ties and lead changes, a late surge, like the Rapids the team is so appropriately named for, allowed them to find the net in what would be the deciding goal. But neither team was ever able to pull more than one goal ahead and the game ended with the Clash just running out of time. An instant classic!
The Rapids was attack was led by goal scorers S. Sousa, N. Osorto and M. Shamy, while G. Falcon, J. Marillo & L. Lema held down the midfield and defensive end. On the other side of the field M. DeAndrade-Fraser, G. Monteiro, J. Fleming and K. Oliveira all battled hard in the midfield and defense while the scoring fell to D. Lyons and D. Quishpi, both of whom netted goals. A great first game that had everyone on their feet!
Game 2 featured the Wiz vs. MetroStars. The Wiz pulled this one out in the end.
In the second game both teams took turns dominating and scoring before the Wiz pulled out one last bit of magic to seal the win at the end. The game started with the Wiz controlling the game and taking a big early lead. But while the MetroStars were bending they did not break. Showing lots of heart and determination, after half time, they came roaring back scoring several goals to get back in the game. Eventually though the Wiz recomposed themselves and settled down putting the game away.
The Wiz scoring was led by I. Contreras, E. Moreira and D. Zokner. G. Orellana held down the backline. The MetroStars scoring came from L. Silva, N. Zayas and I. Nieves, while O. Rico, L. Henriques, X. Pereira and K. Goncalves rotated in and out to lock down the midfield and defense.
Game 3 closed out the day with the Burn vs. Mutiny. The Mutiny pulled away late to take the victory.
The final game showcased a classic example of speed versus good positioning. The Mutiny tried to use their quickness and speed down the wings every chance they got while the Burn countered with a disciplined midfield and defense. For most of the game it looked like it would be a stalemate but with what looked like fresher legs the Burn were burned by the Mutiny's speed in the last quarter of the game.
M. Olavarria used his free role up front to net all the goals for the Mutiny while N. Henriques, G. Andrade, S. Pena and N. Bueno anchored the midfield and defense. The Burn scoring came from S. Castillo and D. Frade, with R. Monteiro, J. Gordon, X. Luna, A. Jiminez and K. Mendoza providing the midfield and defensive support.
THANK YOU to everyone who came out to support the kids for the EYS Rec League kick off! A great time was had by all!!
